Fifth Annual Jerry Colangelo Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Classic presented by Nike & IOA Returns to The Wigwam

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will host its fifth annual Jerry Colangelo Golf Classic, presented by NIKE and IOA, on September 22nd and 23rd at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Arizona. This year’s field will once again bring out some of the biggest names in basketball including Gary Payton, Spencer Haywood and PJ Carlesimo. Hall of Famers scheduled to participate include Elgin Baylor, Bernard King, Bob Lanier, Annie Meyers, Ralph Sampson, Jamaal Wilkes and more. Arizona legends Cedric Ceballos and Eddie House will also be on hand.

On December 21, 2016, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the basketball community will celebrate 125 years of basketball – a game that has grown tremendously on the global stage and positively impacted an immeasurable number of players, coaches and fans. On December 21, 1891, a physical education instructor named James Naismith introduced a new game to a class of young men in an otherwise unremarkable gymnasium at the YMCA International Training School, a school now known as Springfield College, in Springfield, Mass. The objective of this game seemed simple; throw a round ball into a round basket tacked to a balcony 10 feet above the floor. The pace of the game was slow and its origins humble, but the new pastime spread quickly and by 1894, basketball was being played in France, China, India and more than a dozen other countries.

Chris Paul, Jalen Rose and Tubby Smith Named Winners of 2016 Mannie Jackson - Basketball’s Human Spirit Award

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced this evening on NBA TV that 12-year NBA veteran Chris Paul, ABC/ESPN basketball analyst Jalen Rose and University of Memphis head coach Tubby Smith have been named winners of the 2016 Mannie Jackson - Basketball’s Human Spirit Award. The winners will be recognized on Thursday, September 8th at the Reunion Dinner on the Hall of Fame’s Center Court during Enshrinement Weekend.

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Announces 2016 Tip-Off Tournament Schedule

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today the field of teams and brackets for the 2016 Tip-Off Tournament. The annual NCAA men’s exempt tournament sponsored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will take place Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Eight schools will compete in two four-team brackets with campus round games leading up to the Mohegan Sun Arena contests.

STAPLES CENTER TO HOST FIRST-EVER “HOOPHALL LA”

Now in its 15th year, the Jordan Brand Classic, presented by American Family Insurance, will return to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Friday, April 15, 2016. Basketball Hall of Fame Announces American Family Insurance as Title Sponsor of Third Annual Hoophall West

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today their partnership with American Family Insurance as the title sponsor of Hoophall West, an annual high school basketball showcase now in its third year.  CBS Sports Network will air a doubleheader on Friday, Dec. 18 featuring two of the events’ marquee matchups.

Red Bull Launches First-Ever Amateur Golf Event

Chicago, Ill. - Red Bull is inviting America’s top amateur golfers to put their skills, strategy and focus to the test in the first-ever Red Bull Takeaway golf tournament. Contests featuring 36 athletes each will be held at two locations, Harry Mussatto Golf Course in Macomb, IL (September 12) and Kent State Golf Course in Kent, OH (September 27.).  The rules of Red Bull Takeaway are simple: lose a hole, lose a club. Competitors will play in a three round nine-hole, match play tournament with USGA Rules enforced. After each round, players will be re-seeded according to point totals. The player with the most points after 27 holes will be crowned the Red Bull Takeaway Champion.
