ABOUT

In 2020, the Position Sports DREAM Initiative was established to recognize and celebrate the unique opportunities that our industry provides in uniting groups in a common goal. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse work environment in which staff members will feel safe, respected and valued regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, ability or age. As part of this initiative, our team established the DREAM Program as a way to support underserved college students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the Sports Business industry. We recognized that these students did not have the same career opportunities, either due to location (only 28% of HBCUs are in a city with a professional sports team) or resources. Our staff has developed a program that brings the real world classroom to them, while providing actual event externships to gain experience and develop a network of connections.

Position Sports offers a unique mentorship program to students from Historically Black College and University sports business programs. Students will complete a 10-week virtual program, learning real-world skills including networking opportunities (virtually), resume building, interacting with sports business professionals, and completing a client-based interactive group project. Mentees will also have an opportunity to work alongside Position Sports staff virtually and aid in event support, marketing strategy, sponsorship sales, communications, and social media.

Candidates ideally have experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Keynote, Adobe Photoshop, and social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and YouTube). The following attributes are a must: excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and adhere to deadlines, and the capacity to work in a very fast-paced environment.

We are asking student candidates to submit a ONE slide PowerPoint resume about themselves to apply for this opportunity. The slide should include their bio information including previous industry experience, volunteer work, and education. Ultimately, how would you promote yourself to a potential employer? Creativity and design are also just as important as the content.
